It was a tough Monday for the CFMOTO Thunder Racing Team in Morocco, but by day two, the mood had improved. Today, the athletes had to cover a total of 500 kilometers, more than half of which was a special stage. According to Antanas Kanopkinas, the terrain varied greatly.
"A day that had everything: sand, dunes, and gravel. The pace was very good. I made a few navigational errors that cost me about five minutes. I also helped an unfortunate competitor who had run out of fuel. While towing him, he turned to the left, the rope snapped, and it got caught in the quad bike's half-axle. It took us a few minutes to cut the rope and remove it, but overall, everything went really, really well. I’m happy with today's result," said A. Kanopkinas after reaching the bivouac. He admitted to feeling tired, which he said was still lingering from the previous day.
According to provisional results, A. Kanopkinas clocked the fastest time among quads in the second day, beating his closest rival by four minutes. The team’s technicians will conduct routine checks and repairs on the quad Tuesday evening, preparing the equipment for the third day of racing.
On Wednesday, the rally caravan will move to a new bivouac, more than 500 kilometers away. Meanwhile, the athletes will need to cover almost 700 kilometers, with 327 of those being a timed section. This stage will primarily consist of rocky terrain, with the organizers predicting that as much as 50 percent of the route will be covered in stones. The rest of the course will see participants navigating soil and sand. Wednesday's route will stretch and the bivouac will be located near the Algerian border.
