On Wednesday, the participants of the Rallye du Maroc faced a demanding challenge, covering long distances. Both the athletes and their teams, who started from the city of Zagora in the morning, had to reach Mengoub, over 500 kilometers away. The racers also had a fierce battle on the track, which, according to CFMOTO Thunder Racing Team’s pilot, was particularly memorable.
"An ordinary, extraordinary day. My closest rival, K. Wisniewski from Poland, started right behind me, and his goal was clear — to stay as close as possible. That’s exactly what he did for the first 60 kilometers, until several bike riders squeezed in between us. After that, the gap between us kept growing, with even more riders getting in between, and in the end, we have a very nice result," said A. Kanopkinas, clearly delighted after winning his second consecutive stage.
The athlete mentioned that he spoke to Wisniewski after the finish. Wisniewski admitted that following other riders on the track had caused him to lose some time. How much this mistake will affect him remains to be seen: "We can be happy today, but we’re not poping the champagne yet."
On Thursday, the Morocco Rally participants will have a shorter stage. The start and finish will be at the same location, and the athletes will cover 378 kilometers in total, with 315 kilometers being the speed section. Most of the terrain will consist of gravel roads, with some dirt, sand, and, according to the organizers, five percent dunes. A. Kanopkinas will begin the fourth stage as the leader of the quad standings, but there are still two intense days of racing before the finish line.
